Our research group at the Brain and Mind Centre and the Charles Perkins Centre of the University of Sydney, Australia focusses on the understanding of mental health disorders and their underlying neurobiological principles. This is of particular importance and adolescent and young adult individuals, where the identification of underlying pathophysiological processes may open the opportunity to choose a more targeted treatment approach and, thereby, reduce negative impact of both, the disorder and side-effects of treatments.

Due to the contributions of many patients and healthy volunteers, studies on the human brain and mind and related disorders are possible and help us to understand these underlying principles.

Hopefully, this will contribute to a better understanding of the neurobiological basis of mental disorders. In doing so we do not only want to open up new diagnostic perspectives, but to develop innovative therapeutic approaches too.
